What if I can't get a GPS position in the field?

If you are unable to get a fixed position, you can still continue to record your trap results. VectorLink will allow you manually enter your position. These GPS coordinates will be uploaded with a bold 'M' next to them, identifying them as being manually entered.

My handheld isn't receiving any GPS coordinates.

Do the following;

  • Check the battery of the GPS receiver and handheld. (Low battery will turn off Bluetooth communication.)
  • Check the battery of the GPS receiver and handheld. (Low battery will turn off Bluetooth communication.)
  • Restart both your handheld and receiver and reconnect.
  • Check you COM port settings (Follow 'Configuring the COM ports').
  • Delete the GPS pairing from the handheld and re-pair them. (Follow 'Pairing your GPS receiver with your handheld' instructions).

If you handheld fails, note down your results manually. Your Vector Manager officer or Employer can enter them directly into VectorNet. (Though these will be marked as manually entered in the system.) If you are unable to resolve the problem with the handheld, contact us as soon as possible.

VectorLink has frozen.

If VectorLink has frozen and you're unable to close the program (using the 'Running programs' screen) then soft reset your device. Please refer to your handheld's user manual more information on 'Soft Resetting'.

My name is not in the contractor list.

Your Principal/employer has not added you to the 'Manage Personnel' table in VectorNet. Contact them and ask them to add you.

Why can't I delete an activity from my list?

You can't delete an activity from your list because you've already uploaded some of the results back into VectorNet. If you want to remove the activity from your list, mark all nights you haven't worked on to CBAC (Completed by another Contractor) (See 'Complete line night (or line set) by another contractor') and upload again. Once all lines have been completed, the activity will be moved into the archive folder.

Why is the 'Start' button not visible when I try to enter night results?

You have not completed previous night's results. If another contractor/employee has captured the results for this night (or line set), then set it to CBAC. (Completed by another Contractor) (See 'Complete line night (or line set) by another contractor')

Another contractor has already set the line/entered results for the night.

Set the line night (or line set) to CBAC. (Completed by another Contractor) (See 'Complete line night (or line set) by another contractor')

I've deleted the wrong activity from my list. Can I get it back?

Yes, as long as you're still assigned to that activity and it hasn't been completed. Just 'Download' again. (See 'Downloading & Uploading jobs (activities)')

I regularly add a comment that's not in the standard list. Can it be added?

Contact us and we can add the new comment to the drop-down list.

I regularly catch a non-target species that is not included in the list. Can it be added?

Contact us and we can add the species to the drop down list.

What happens if I run out of Contingency lines?

VectorLink will allow you to add Additional lines. You'll need to contact your Vector Manager Officer to obtain the line number and coordinates.

Is there help on the handheld?

Yes. When VectorLink is open, tap 'Start' and then 'Help'. Screen specific help is then displayed. (Though you can access the rest of the help through the menu.)

I successfully downloaded my work but some of the activities I've been awarded aren't in my list.

There could be a number of issues:

  • If you have access to VectorNet, firstly check that the activity status of the monitor is set to 'Ready'.
  • If it isn't, talk to your Vector Manager Officer. If the monitor is at 'Ready', check that your name has been selected to download the activity in the 'Manage Personnel Table'.
  • If it isn't, talk to your Vector Manager Officer. If the monitor is at 'Ready', check that your name has been selected to download the activity in the 'Manage Personnel Table'.

I've finished and uploaded the monitor but the activity is still in my list.

Part of the activity is still not finished. Check the 'Line Summary' table for lines that are not at the 'Complete' status. (Generally these will be lines which someone else have recorded.) Mark all incomplete nights to 'CBAC' (Completed by Another Contractor) and then upload again. (See 'Complete line night (or line set) by another contractor')

The 'Sync' option is greyed out on the 'Options' menu.
