Specification

What is the minimum specification for a device on which to run VectorLink?

The minimum specifications for a handheld device to run VectorLink are:

  • Windows Mobile 5 or a higher operating system
  • 400+ MHz processor
  • 128 Mb ROM
  • 64 Mb RAM
  • 240 * 320 pixels (QVGA) screen resolution
  • 500+ MB memory card

Operation

What if I can't get a GPS position in the field?

If you are unable to get a fixed position, you can still continue to record your trap results. VectorLink will allow GPS coordinates to be entered manually. These GPS coordinates will be uploaded with a bold 'M' next to them, which identifies them as manual entries.

The handheld device is not receiving any GPS coordinates.

Try the following:

  • Check the battery of the GPS receiver and handheld. (Low battery will turn off Bluetooth communication.)
  • Restart both your handheld and receiver and reconnect.
  • Check your COM port settings.
  • Delete the GPS pairing from the handheld and re-pair them.

What should I do if the handheld device or GPS stop working whilst out in the field?

In this case, you will need to record your results manually. Your Vector Manager officer or employer can enter them directly into VectorNet. If you are unable to resolve the problem with the handheld, contact us as soon as possible. Note:"Results entered manually will be marked by the system accordingly.

VectorLink has frozen.

If VectorLink has frozen and you are unable to close the program (using the 'Running programs' screen) then soft reset your device. Please refer to your handheld's user manual for instructions on performing a 'Soft Reset'.

I cannot find my name in the contractor list.

Your Principal/employer has not added your name to the 'Manage Personnel' table in VectorNet. Contact them and ask them to add your name.

How do I delete an activity from my list

You can delete an activity by selecting it and hitting the 'View Details' button. Here, there is a 'Delete Activity' button which will remove the activity from your Activity Summary screen. An activity which has not been used will be removed permanently, whereas an activiy which has data recorded against it will be moved into the 'Archive' area.

The 'Start' button is not visible when I try to enter night results

You have not completed the previous night's results. If another contractor/employee has captured the results for this night (or line set), then complete the night as CBAC (Completed by another Contractor).

Another contractor has already set the line/entered results for the night.

Complete the line night (or line set) by setting it to CBAC (Completed by another Contractor).

How do I retrieve an activity that I've mistakenly deleted from my list?

As long as you are still assigned to that activity and it hasn't been completed, you can download the activity again.

I regularly add a comment that is not in the standard list.

Contact us so that it can be added to the drop-down list.

I regularly catch a non-target species that is not included in the list.

Contact us so that it can be added to the drop down list.

What happens if I run out of contingency lines?

VectorLink will allow you to add additional lines. You will need to contact your Vector Manager Officer to obtain the line number and coordinates.

Is there any VectorLink help available on the handheld device?

When VectorLink is open, tap 'Start' and then 'Help'. Screen specific help is displayed, although you can access the rest of the help via the menu.

Synchronisation

I receive the message 'Error Detected - Login to VectorNet failed. Please check your details and try again.' when I try to synchronise.

Check that you are entering the correct username and password. If you continue to have a problems contact us.

I receive the message 'Error Detected - An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it cannot be found.' when I try to sync.

Try the following:

  • Check your proxy settings are correct
  • Check your network settings are correct
  • Check your VectorLink settings. In the 'Synchronisation Menu' screen, tap the 'Proxy' tab and check that the only box with information is the 'Service' text box. This should read 'vectornet.ahb.org.nz'.

If you continue to have problems contact us.

I successfully downloaded my work but some of the activities I've been awarded aren't in the list.

If you have access to VectorNet, firstly check that the activity status of the monitor is set to 'Ready'. If it isn't, talk to your Vector Manager Officer. If the monitor is at 'Ready', check that your name has been selected to download the activity in the 'Manage Personnel Table'.

I've finished and uploaded the monitor but the activity is still in my list.

Part of the activity is still not finished. Check the 'Line Summary' table for lines that are not at the 'Complete' status (generally these will be lines which someone else will have recorded). Mark all incomplete nights as 'CBAC' (Completed by Another Contractor) and then upload again.

The 'Sync' option is greyed out on the 'Options' menu.

There is no active connection to a PC. Check the ActiveSync connection on your PC and make sure the handheld device is properly connected.
